C-R Generation's is an outreach program designed to connect children, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities by utilizing the arts.  Creating this connection is vital not only to the community in which we live but for society as a whole.  The potential impact this program will have on the participants, the community, and the future is limitless.  The partners involved in this project will develop programs in which each generation explores self expression, utilizes existing skills and talents, builds new relationships and discovers enhanced productivity and self esteem.  We hope to support the creation of future projects which creatively bring together children, seniors, and the disabled in an effort to lessen the ever widening generation gap.

Intergenerational Programs Funded

The Cohoes Music Hall, home of C-R Productions, received a $10,000 grant to launch an intergenerational programming to bridge the generational gap and increase communications among children and seniors.

An oversized check was presented to the organization Friday. The funding was through the Leon J. Goldberg Foundation, said Beth Boivin, director of the Anne B. and Leon J. Goldberg Alzheimer's Resource Center.

"I've always attempted to bring children and senior citizens together with programs," said Boivin. "I'm excited about what C-R Productions has suggested."

Thomas Brockley, a trustee with the foundation, said, "This project just makes sense."

C-R Productions and the Center For Disability Services have teamed up to develop a program unlike any other in the area.  The program, C-R Center Stars, designed to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities through the performing arts, offers a unique experience for all involved. C-R Productions' Managing Director, Tony Rivera, works alongside staff from the Adult Services Division at the Center to teach acting skills, voice and singing techniques, and the components of dramatic production to adult Center consumers with physical, cognitive and other disabilities.

Together, the Center and C-R Productions are using the performing arts as a catalyst to enable consumers to live more enriched lives through an increased sense of self and overall wellness. The performing arts foster creativity, self-expression, self esteem, and a sense of well being for the participants.  This program is the pilot program in which the Center and C-R Productions hope to turn into an ongoing, evolved, and exclusive program/partnership.  The program will culminate this coming summer with performances on the Cohoes Music Hall stage on August 11th, 12th and 13th. The consumers natural talent, paired with the knowledge and experience they've learned over the past several months and the months ahead will be showcased during their production, entitled "I Am...".  The consumers' family, friends and the public will have the opportunity to experience who these individuals are through their performances on the Cohoes Music Hall stage.
